week 5

I’ve rather enjoyed this week. Actually, that’s an understatement…I loved this week. You know when you just feel “on”…you feel positive, creative, happy, healthy & connected to the flow of life and those around you? Rather then annoyed, frustrated, anxious & “off”? Well, I felt “on” this week and believe me, I am not gloating because my head space has been a bit touch and go recently. It’s just been a good week and I am always grateful for a good week. With all that said I’m looking forward to taking this energy into the weekend.

this weekend…

After a morning client today I am meeting my girlfriend Crystal for lunch at you guessed it…a vegetarian restaurant! Luckily she’s a “real” vegetarian, not just some “30 day challenge” pretend vegetarian, so picking the lunch spot was easy. After lunch I am visiting my girlfriend Sophie and her adorable little boys at their new home to help unpack a few boxes and take a dip in their new pool. Then I meeting Brian and a few of our friends at The Hollywood Forever Cemetery for a Spoon concert.

Saturday we have a million and one things to do around the house in the morning. We’ve. Been. Lazy. LAZZZZY. Luckily after what I am sure will be a boring morning we are yet again heading to a pool for the afternoon. This time with my mama, Loni & the lovely baby Margot. I am looking forward to seeing baby Margot float around in a pool. Really, is there anything cuter than a baby in a bathing suit? I think not.

Sunday morning Brian will probably surf and I will probably go to yoga (it’s the Sunday morning routine around here) then we are meeting his parents for get this…the annual Rib Fest at Lucques. Clearly, I agreed to this before I decided to go vegetarian for a month. I’m thinking I just eat the sides and cheer Brian on in what I am sure will be an epic display of rib consumption?

What inspired me this week?

This weeks project 30! I just loved this line…“And the older I get the more I realize that there is no place to fall- believing there is a “place” is a very immature point of view in my estimation.”

The photographer, Jennifer Harr for gifting Brian and I with a one of her beautiful photographs (that I have been drooling over) It’s amazing how lovely and generous people can be.

What surprised me this week?

That Frank isn’t bald. Seriously, the amount of hair he sheds on a daily basis is astounding. It’s also beyond annoying having to sweep the house every night. I’m rethinking our suede couch…BIG time.

 Frank and I found ourselves in the middle of police standoff on our walk this week. We certainly know how to time it don’t we?

That I not only like but love the show Scandal (I know, I am very late to the game). Last week I watched my first episode on netflix and it has since become an every night activity. Sometimes two episodes a night…ok and once it was three.

30 day vegetarian challenge

As most of you know, one of my goals for the year is to go vegetarian for thirty consecutive days. The goal was inspired by the fact that I’ve been feeling “off” since my gallbladder surgery last March and I noticed that I felt most “off” after eating a meal with animal products. Well, except eggs- I don’t want to throw them under the bus in a blanket statement. So I thought it might be time to explore vegetarianism and see if it improves my state – both mentally and physically. I’ve always been interested in clean eating (I grew up in LA, people!) but I’m not always consistent about it. I go through periods where I am either obsessed with clean eating and on a green juice cleanse or indulging in a cheeseburger and a glass of wine each night for dinner. I don’t do “middle” ground very well. Considering I am now officially a woman in my 30’s, it might be time to take what I put in my body each day a little more seriously.

Ever heard the quote…“Take care of your body, it’s the only place you have to live” – Jim Rohn . Well, that quote keeps replaying in my head. He has a rather good point, don’t you think?

Yesterday was day one of the challenge! So far so good (said rather confidently by the girl only 2 days into her 30 day challenge) Yesterday I took myself to get a lunch at Thai Vegan (if you live in LA, go. It’s so delicious and super cheap). I’ve always loved their food, so eating there wasn’t a sacrifice. I ordered the fresh veggie wraps with peanut sauce- YUM. For dinner I made a big veggie salad (lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, artichoke hearts, gorbonzo beans & avocado) for Brian and me (although he topped his off with roast chicken. I only glanced longingly at it for a ten seconds, tops) and everybody was satisfied.

I do realize I might get a little bored of eating a salad every night for thirty nights in a row. I like variety! So I am on the hunt for easy weeknight vegetarian meals…I found the below ones while scouring pinterest. Don’t they look delish?? Each one is so colorful and vibrant. I might give them a try this next week.

365 til 33

If you’ve been following along with my blog since the beginning then you know that I come up with a list of goals to tackle each year. The first year,  365 til 30 my goals included driving across the USA, learning French, learning how to tango, going camping, spending a week at Tassajara, Learning how to cook, volunteering, getting a French bulldog & publishing my writing. I was pretty damn successful that year in accomplishing my goals. To the point of obsession actually. Accomplishing those goals before turning 30 was all I could think about for 365 days. Brian was very happy when that year was over. HA. Over the last few years I have continued to create a list of goals…doing so helps me focus on the things I want from my life…a framework if you will.

365 til…33!

Travel

Every year you can pretty much guarantee that one of my goals will be travel related. I am a travel nut! Seriously, why can’t I just travel the world and get paid for it? (Is anybody listening? I’m totally available if you want to pay me to travel) During 365 til 30 my travel goal was to drive across the country (check!)…during 365 til 31 my travel goal was an overseas trip (Brian and I went to Hong Kong and trekked Nepal!)…365 til 32 my travel goal was again an overseas trip but this time for our honeymoon (we took a month off and went to Vietnam and Bali) This year my travel goal is much simpler, all I want to do is take a road trip with Brian. I love road trippin’ with that man. Actually, it was on our first road trip together that I knew I loved him. We were only a month into dating when I asked him if he wanted to take a road trip to Santa Fe with me to visit my friend Chantal. He must have thought I was crazy. Who would want to sign up for that many hours in a car with a person you’ve only been dating a month? The answer to that question is ME! And him I guess Brian as well because he said yes. Luckily, it was a total success. This year I’m thinking a road trip from LA to Seattle. My ideal stops along the way would be….Big Sur, San Francisco, Ashland, Eugene, Portland, Olympia & Seattle.

Learn

This year I am dying to learn more about photography. For a girl who appreciates a beautiful photograph, it is a crying shame I can’t shoot one as well as I’d like to. Especially when it comes to this blog, I would love to post higher quality photographs. Well, I guess I do sometimes but sadly they are not shot by me and instead by my photographer husband. With that said, I will be signing my ass up for a photography class as well as making Brian teach me all his tricks. He even has an extra Canon Rebel camera waiting for me. Winning!

Writing

You can also pretty much guarantee that one of my goals each year will also have to do with writing. This year it is travel related. I want to publish my various travel (road trip, Hong Kong, Nepal, Vietnam & Bali) essays. Wish me luck!

Health 

I want to go vegetarian for a month. Ever since my gallbladder surgery a few months ago I have had the hardest time with my digestion. It’s been driving me crazy! I’ve decided that meat might be the culprit. This coming from an Irish gal who loves a good steak. Sigh. I thought what better time to test out vegetarianism then now! Oy…I’m scared. Any vegetarians out there want to offer some advice?

Home

Decorating our new home has been on hold for a bit now…between shelling out money for our wedding and honeymoon we have been neglecting our home. The space totally deserves more! I plan on decorating with the help of pinterest and my very talented interior designer mother. So here we go…one room at a time.
