{what a beautiful thought}

‎”As long as we’re caught up in always looking for certainty and happiness, rather than honoring the taste and smell and quality of exactly what is happening, as long as we’re always running from discomfort, we’re going to be caught in a cycle of unhappiness and discomfort, and we will feel weaker and weaker. This way of seeing helps us develop inner strength. And what’s especially encouraging is the view that inner strength is available to us at just the moment when we think that we’ve hit the bottom, when things are at their worst.”

I had the pleasure of having lunch with one of my nearest and dearest friends Ali yesterday. I always have AH HA moments when I’m with her. She’s smart, interesting and ALWAYS makes for good conversation. Yesterday, we got to talking about how important it is to be knowledgable about what’s happening in the world. I’m embarrassed to admit that most days I find myself more concerned with what’s happening in my tiny little bubble. That’s rather pathetic if you ask me. It’s not because I don’t care, sometimes it just feels a bit much but that’s no excuse.

Ali recently decided she would replace the time she spent on Facebook with reading the New Yorker. I was totally inspired by her and considering I am 321 days away from being 30 there really is no excuse to not making a serious effort to give a damn.  Today I will read the paper, the New Yorker and The Week.
