Despite there still being a list of things I want to do to our bedroom, I really do love the space. It’s so bright and cheerful! I have a huge crush on the floor to ceiling windows- I fell in love with them the minute we walked into our loft. Don’t worry we have black out shades that come down when we sleep but the minute I wake up in the morning those shades go up. Not pictured…the sliding glass wall that opens up out onto our patio, making the bedroom an indoor/outdoor space- which is amazing during the summer months. I also love the simplicity of the room. I’m not a fan of clutter or televisions in bedrooms. Haven’t you ever heard that a happy marriage relies on not having a tv in the bedroom? HA.

With all that said there are a few things I do want to do to our bedroom…

– Paint the walls light grey. Honestly I want to paint every room light grey. To me home decor heaven is grey walls + clean lines + white + ethnic rugs + pops of colors.

– We need a beautiful piece of art above our bed. As I mentioned in another post the talented and generous photographer, Jennifer Harr sent us a landscape photograph of The Painted Hills in Oregon that I’m thinking might be perfect over our bed.

– as you can see from one of the photos above Brian has a headlamp next to his side of the bed. Sadly, this is what he has to use to read at night if I want to go to bed considering the only lighting in the bedroom is the track lighting above. The wall our bed is against isn’t large enough for two end tables and a bed. Poor Brian is camping in our bedroom! Pretty ridiculous, huh? I’m thinking we need to have two fabulous wall lamps installed on each side of the bed to remedy the situation. I will miss how cute Brian looks half-naked in a headlamp though.

– lastly, I think the space needs a bright colored ethnic rug (no surprise, right?!)

artist date # 3: creating the perfect workspace

13 Feb

At our old apartment my workspace was lacking. Translation- I had no workspace. I mostly worked sitting indian style on the living room couch with a pillow propped on my lap as my desk and my computer on top. It wasn’t the most ideal situation for a person who works out of their home half the time (by the way I realize I have never told you what I do for a living other than write and blog! So odd! I promise to write a post about it soon). Luckily our new home has a second bedroom and considering we don’t have kids and don’t have sleepover guests often we decided to make it a joint workspace. Dream come true!

I’ve had such fun daydreaming about how I wanted to decorate my workspace- one that is both functional and inspiring to work in. Inspiration photos I pinned:

As you can see from the pictures above I’m all about a white palate with pops of color. I love having inspiration boards around the desk. I love flowers or a plant to be incorporated and I love personal photos and trinkets to be seen. Last Friday I decided to spend my set aside artist date time unpacking office boxes and starting the process of building my space. So far I’ve ended up with this…

It’s a work in progress. So this is where you come in! I’d love love love to see pictures of your work spaces- please send them in! I’d also love any tips you may have for creating the perfect workspace. Help me decorate!

obsessed

5 Feb

I’m obsessed with all things home decor right now. OBSESSED. I think it comes with the territory of moving into a new space, right? Problem is I have a long list of other things I need to do, like work. But instead I find myself spending a good portion of my day calling my mother with new decorating ideas….I think a mirror should go here and a table there and maybe we need a rug in the office and we need a painting there and should we paint the walls? When Brian gets home from work I spend at least a half an hour (after I give him a hug and kiss of course) showing him things we clearly NEED at West Elm. He seems less enthused than I. For a man who doesn’t see how important a Bazzar Pouf can be to one’s life – he certainly has some strong opinions about decorating. I’m dying to meet those husbands who don’t care what the new couch looks like because that’s not who I am marrying. I show him pictures and he’s like “naaaah, I don’t like that shade of grey”. I mean reeeeaaaallly. Doesn’t he know I’m only asking to be fair? Kidding…kinda. Thankfully I’ve made him realize how important it is that we have THIS rug in our office.

Alright, I’m off to tackle Tuesday and finding the “perfect shade of grey” couch. I’ll leave you with a few home decor inspiration photos that make me swoon.

144889312982137243_eHDbxvch_cThis weekend is shaping up to be rather quiet. We still have SOOO much packing to do for next weekends move. So we plan on staying in for most of the weekend and doing just that! I’m trying to purge us of stuff we don’t need anymore and either sell it, donate it or trash it. Cleaning house over here! Other than that I plan on getting to some yoga classes.

What do you guys have planned for the weekend?

What inspired me this week?

– pinning home decor images on pinterest in preparation for decorating our new space!

– working at my favorite little coffee shop on Ocean Park- it’s such a creative space

– Jen Pastiloff’s wednesday night yoga class– the mood, the music, the people!

– This Pema Chodron excerpt. Such a good reminder

What am I grateful for this week?

– gorgeous, smart and funny new girlfriends Melissa and Katie

What surprised me this week?

– it is possible to survive three days on just liquid

– how quickly 150 people adds up- wedding invite lists suck
