365 til 33

If you’ve been following along with my blog since the beginning then you know that I come up with a list of goals to tackle each year. The first year,  365 til 30 my goals included driving across the USA, learning French, learning how to tango, going camping, spending a week at Tassajara, Learning how to cook, volunteering, getting a French bulldog & publishing my writing. I was pretty damn successful that year in accomplishing my goals. To the point of obsession actually. Accomplishing those goals before turning 30 was all I could think about for 365 days. Brian was very happy when that year was over. HA. Over the last few years I have continued to create a list of goals…doing so helps me focus on the things I want from my life…a framework if you will.

365 til…33!

Travel

Every year you can pretty much guarantee that one of my goals will be travel related. I am a travel nut! Seriously, why can’t I just travel the world and get paid for it? (Is anybody listening? I’m totally available if you want to pay me to travel) During 365 til 30 my travel goal was to drive across the country (check!)…during 365 til 31 my travel goal was an overseas trip (Brian and I went to Hong Kong and trekked Nepal!)…365 til 32 my travel goal was again an overseas trip but this time for our honeymoon (we took a month off and went to Vietnam and Bali) This year my travel goal is much simpler, all I want to do is take a road trip with Brian. I love road trippin’ with that man. Actually, it was on our first road trip together that I knew I loved him. We were only a month into dating when I asked him if he wanted to take a road trip to Santa Fe with me to visit my friend Chantal. He must have thought I was crazy. Who would want to sign up for that many hours in a car with a person you’ve only been dating a month? The answer to that question is ME! And him I guess Brian as well because he said yes. Luckily, it was a total success. This year I’m thinking a road trip from LA to Seattle. My ideal stops along the way would be….Big Sur, San Francisco, Ashland, Eugene, Portland, Olympia & Seattle.

Learn

This year I am dying to learn more about photography. For a girl who appreciates a beautiful photograph, it is a crying shame I can’t shoot one as well as I’d like to. Especially when it comes to this blog, I would love to post higher quality photographs. Well, I guess I do sometimes but sadly they are not shot by me and instead by my photographer husband. With that said, I will be signing my ass up for a photography class as well as making Brian teach me all his tricks. He even has an extra Canon Rebel camera waiting for me. Winning!

Writing

You can also pretty much guarantee that one of my goals each year will also have to do with writing. This year it is travel related. I want to publish my various travel (road trip, Hong Kong, Nepal, Vietnam & Bali) essays. Wish me luck!

Health

I want to go vegetarian for a month. Ever since my gallbladder surgery a few months ago I have had the hardest time with my digestion. It’s been driving me crazy! I’ve decided that meat might be the culprit. This coming from an Irish gal who loves a good steak. Sigh. I thought what better time to test out vegetarianism then now! Oy…I’m scared. Any vegetarians out there want to offer some advice?

Home

Decorating our new home has been on hold for a bit now…between shelling out money for our wedding and honeymoon we have been neglecting our home. The space totally deserves more! I plan on decorating with the help of pinterest and my very talented interior designer mother. So here we go…one room at a time.

The blog world can be such a funny world! Many months ago when I was “Freshly Pressed” on WordPress, a lovely woman named Sophia found my blog. Since then we’ve become internet friends- exchanging emails on different topics and such. I always enjoy her witty, funny and thoughtful emails and comments. Cut to a month ago when she emailed me that she was coming to LA (she lives in North Carolina) for a trip and wondered if 1. I would like to meet up and 2. If Brian and I would be open to shooting some engagement photos with her (did I forget to mention she’s a talented photographer with a beautiful blog?).

I immediately thought it sounded fun. Brian on the other hand thought it sounded “not so fun”. A little known fact about Brian; he hates being in front of the camera. HATES. He much prefers being behind the camera. So he thought this whole shooting photos with a complete stranger sounded like a terrible, no-good idea. But luckily I can be persuasive and got him to agree to do it. And guess what?? Brian was proven wrong and Sophia was lovely and shooting with her was an easy, fun and comfortable experience. She even got Brian to smile- A BUNCH!

11 Jul

Today’s guest post is from Rachel of One Part Gypsy– not only is she an incredibly talented photographer and creative director but she also happens to be my dear friend and cohort in crime on the across the country adventure (her pictures from the trip were amazing- you must check them out if you haven’t!). Enjoy her post on Summer goodness!

…..

Summer is as summer was…

June gloom seems to have passed over here, and the bright sunny mornings make me want to play hooky and hang at the beach all. day. long.

I think that’s what I love about summer most: the predictable combo of sand and sun (and perhaps some good company!) always equaling a perfect day.

Hope you all are enjoying summer as much as these guys are!

INSPIRATION, GRATITUDE & SURPRISES

365 til 30 is the featured story on Life By Me today!! Life By Me happens to be one of my favorite sites- I look forward to reading the  featured piece everyday and today it’s mine! No pressure that other featured stories were written by Deepak Chopra and Desmond Tutu, right? No pressure at all. In all seriousness though, I am thrilled to be included on the site. It means the world to me and I also don’t mind being called a “Manifesting Dynamo” either…

-What inspired me this week?-

This quote-

“When you surrender, the problem ceases to exist. Try to solve it, or conquer it, and you only set up more resistance. . . . The most difficult thing to admit, and to realize with one’s whole being, is that you alone control nothing. . . .”
— Henry Miller

I have been crazy focused (I stress crazy) on how 365 til 30 is supposed to end and attempting to plan everything out like I control the universe. I have had to keep reminding myself that 365 til 30 is a ride to be enjoyed and not to be controlled. So when I stumbled upon the quote above I smiled with acceptance. I alone do not control everything and that’s actually part of the fun. That’s the funny thing about manifesting. You have to trust that you have put the energy out there and be open to what is meant to come. Things may turn out differently than I initially imagined and who the hell knows what’s to be revealed within the next 5 months. I have been wonderfully surprised numerous times in the last 6 months. Why stop now, Universe!

Oh, road trip planning you certainly do inspire me. I get a little flutter in my heart every time I think about my upcoming trip. I could stay up all night every night researching interesting things to do across America. I find it all so exciting! I still can’t believe I plan on leaving my life for a month to explore the US. Sounds slightly insane. But, I guess I am slightly insane so it all makes sense.

LOVED this list.

This beautiful photography project by Lauren Fleishman features the love stories of couples who have been married for over 50 years. The pictures are the sweetest thing I have ever seen but the quotes are even sweeter.

I am re-reading The Artist’s Way and I always find it inspiring.

When I can hear the waves crash at night.

-What am I grateful for this week?-

Brian. I was sick this week and as we all know when you feel crummy there is nothing better then having somebody take care of you.

-What surprised me this week?-

I received an envelope in the mail from my friend Aireka with an amazing music compilation CD in it! She decided to make a CD for her friends that represented  her music expression of 2011. Don’t you just love that idea!?
