PEOPLE THAT I LOVE : MY MOM

My mom lights up a room with her presence…totally cliche but it’s true. She has such a big spirit. She’s also a total goof. There is nobody that makes me laugh harder than my momma. She can find the fun and joy in any situation. She has a talent for it. Her infectious love of life is one of my favorite qualities about her. She’s the first person I call when I have good or bad news. She’s my best friend, my safe place, my compass and my biggest supporter. She has given me so much through the years that I feel like I am constantly saying “Thank you”.

The only bad thing I can say about my mother is that she’s a terrible driver and I am not alone in thinking this. My grandmother on my father’s side still talks about time she road as a passenger in my mom’s car 30 years ago. One time she picked me up at the airport and was so excited to see me that she started yelling “Kate…Kate!!” and waving excitedly. She was so distracted by it all that she drove into the median and blew out all her tires landing flat on it. It was quite a scene.  At this point in my life I have chosen to find her driving endearing.

I talk to her everyday…sometimes twice…sometimes three times. She calls me potato head, ducky, Katers or the mashup Katers-potaters. My favorite compliment is when somebody tells me I remind them of my mother. I only hope one day I can be half as good as a mother to my children as she is to me.

My mother and I started French classes yesterday and it was soooooo much fun to be back in school with my mama!

The picture above highlights our attempt to dress in French theme for the class which had us both wearing striped shirts…are striped shirts even French? Strangely enough there were lots of people wearing stripes in the class including our teacher Margaret. She had a striped shirt on and a striped sweater tied around her shoulders. Margaret is full of life and a total riot. She had us laughing out loud for 3 hours with her funny little ways. We lucked out with her because she is going to make learning French that much more fun. Yesterday we worked on pronunciation of vowels in French. My favorite sentence to say…

Il a mille amis a Miami
