-It’s September! I know it’s not officially fall just yet but once the month of September hits I start my transition into my favorite time of year.

– Bringing out my fall wardrobe…Hello!…boots, sweaters, scarfs and leather jackets!

– A date with my girlfriend Ali, her husband David & little boy Charlie who were visiting from New York. I hadn’t met Charlie yet and he is so damn cute! I’ve said it before and I will say it again…seeing your closest friends become mothers is the sweetest.

– Being invited into two book clubs this month. Clearly, I’ve got some reading to do. The books on the line-up…”Everything I Never Told You” & “The Luckiest Girl Alive”

– Our newly painted bedroom accent wall. It’s love

– Planning a trip in November to visit my step father Irv in Kansas City and my girlfriend Chantal and her family in Atlanta. It will be so funny to travel without Brian- I haven’t done it in years!

– The green monkey smoothie…kale, coconut water, almond milk, dates, cinnamon, bananas & coconut meat. OMG

Maha Yoga

– One of Brian’s projects, Pershing Square Renew, launched on Tuesday. I decided to go to the launch of it which was held downtown at City Hall (I’ve never been there- such a beautiful building). It’s always so fun to see him in action and support his passions. Here’s a write-up about it complete with a quote from Bri!

– Red toes and nude nails

– The way Frank cuddles into my legs in the morning when Brian delivers both him and coffee to bed.

– This note from the Universe I received yesterday…

Start it; you don’t have to be fancy.

Keep moving; you don’t have to go crazy.

Visualize; you don’t have to admit it.

See the end result; it doesn’t have to be material.

Expect miracles; they don’t have to be huge.

Pretend you’ve arrived; you don’t have to dance on tables.

And above all else, Kate, have fun.

This is why you started it, right?

Life, what a trip –
The Universe

This weekend Brian and I are celebrating our first wedding anniversary. I cannot believe that it has been a year already! I get all sappy thinking about our wedding day. It was perfection- so cliché but it really was the most magical day of my life. Marrying that man was the best decision I have ever made. I’m so grateful to be his wife. Like seriously…SO grateful.

Happy Anniversary, my love! You are the keel to my sail.

I have been a tad absent on the blog recently. I had big plans for the content I wanted to put up (seriously, I had the calendar all planned out) but instead daily life kept getting in the way and I had a hard time sitting down at my computer for a solid block of time. Luckily, I had a bunch of fabulous project 30 interviews lined up- did you read them? They were all fabulous! (Chelsea, Katie, Tobi & Amy Nicole).

The past few days have been full…we had friends staying with us, my momma’s birthday & Rosh Hashanah. In addition I have been under the weather the last two days. It’s just your run of the mill sore throat, headache & body aches but it’s knocked me on my ass. I just want to sleep all day. Sadly, Frank thinks sleeping all day is stupid. He’d much rather torture me with his tennis ball. Seriously, what do people do when they are sick and have small kids at home??? If a puppy is driving me nuts I can’t imagine a baby.

I’m planning on taking it pretty easy this weekend. The only thing I have on the books is a date with my little sister Briana. We are going to Aquarium Of The Pacific! I’m not sure who is more excited about this outing!

What inspired me this week?

30 things to start doing for yourself

All the beautiful and moving essays that have been posted on the Manifest-Station recently

This quote…”The things you are passionate about are not random, they are your calling.“- Fabienne Fredrickson

What am I grateful for this week?

Long visits with Taline and baby Liam

A beautiful Rosh Hashanah dinner with family. It was such a warm evening filled with love and laughter…Shana Tova!!

Lunch with my brother and my momma to celebrate her birthday at a restaurant on the sand

My family for offering to take Frankie out on dates these last two days to give me a break while sick in bed

A margarita date with my friend Jen Pastiloff

It’s officially fall…bring out the pumpkins and pumpkin candles!

My dear friend Ali had a healthy & beautiful baby boy

My husband…always my husband

What surprised me this week?

My experience at the DMV…story coming Monday!

Lastly, have you seen this video yet? I’m obsessed

4. My girlfriend Taline…she really is like a sister to me and I always know she has my best interest at heart

5. White lilies that brighten up our kitchen

6. Rain in September

7. My girlfriend Ali is having a baby this month!

8. I am officially Kate Glodney now! After three painful hours at the social security office…viola! I’m currently practicing my new signature…I’ve found that capital G’s are hard

9. Seafood dinner with the Glodney’s

10. lazy Sunday evenings spent with my husband cooking a delicious pasta dish and watching the season finale of the leftovers (which I actually enjoyed…I wasn’t sure I even liked the show until the season finale)

11. The “old school rap” station on Pandora

12. Sunday morning yoga and brunch dates with new friends

13. Melissa for being one of my biggest cheerleaders

14. Jen Pastiloff for encouraging me to submit an essay for her soulful site

Liam

29 Jul

My best friend, Taline gave birth to her baby boy, Liam on Friday. I know….I know…babies are born everyday but his arrival really pulled at my heart-strings. Probably because Taline and I have been best friends since the 7th grade (oy! that’s twenty years!) and she’s like a sister to me. We’ve stood by each others side through so many ups and downs (OH….and the stories we have on each other…we are taking those to the grave!). I seriously trust her with my life. She’s such a beautiful human being and now I can safely say she’s a beautiful mama. I’m looking forward to standing by her side in this exciting new journey.

Brian and I spent Saturday afternoon visiting with the new family at the hospital. Man, that little Liam stole my heart. He’s beyond precious- so teeny tiny and absolutely perfect. He made my ovaries hurt! HA.

Welcome to the world Liam! You got very lucky in the parental department!

24 hour trip

21 Jul

Our mini vacation to Coronado this weekend with Rachel and PJ was a total success…well minus the 4 1/2 car ride down to San Diego (in bumper to bumper traffic no less) that should have taken 2 1/2 hours. I’m not going to lie…that part kinda sucked with three crazy dogs in the car. But we all survived with our sense of humors in tact.

nala spent most of the road trip cozy in her bed being cute…

photo-3

Frank spent most of the road trip digging his tiny claws into Brian’s legs while watching the world go by…

photo

Cherokee spent most of the road trip letting us all know his displeasure with being seated in the back …

Once we finally arrived at PJ’s parents lovely home in Coronado, we recharged with a yummy lunch and  white wine before hitting the dog beach. The afternoon at the beach was something Brian and I were pretty excited about considering it was Frank’s first time making contact with the sand and the ocean. I know…I know…such annoying first time parents. All in all the beach was a total success. At first Frank was frightened of the ocean. Each time the water came up to him he would run as fast as his little tush would carry him in the other direction. After watching this hysterical back and forth for a few minutes he finally warmed up to the water when he saw a tennis ball go in. Frank’s love of tennis ball knows no boundaries. When he saw it go in he jumped right in to retrieve it, stealing it away from an eager golden retriever. He’s such a ball thief. After wrestling it away from him and returning it to its rightful owner we found him his very own tennis ball and played a long game of fetch. It was so sweet to see him at the beach – pure joy. It dawned on me that if I am this excited to see Frank experience something new for the first time, I can’t imagine how magical it will be to see our children experience things for the first time. It must make the world come alive in a whole new way.

After the beach we showered up and hit the town. Coronado is such a picturesque little all American town- it’s pretty darling. We walked through the famous Hotel Del Coronado, had drinks at The Tavern, a delicious Mexican feast at Miguel’s followed by a rowdy card game back at the house (sadly, I lost). It was a pretty perfect Saturday night.

The next morning we packed up and hit the road in fear that we would once again be stuck in horrible traffic. Fortunately, the ride home was much more mellow. The traffic was mild, Cherokee’s whining was at an all time low, Brian wised up and put Frank’s bed on his lap to keep his tiny claws from mutilating his leg, Frank discovered the joy of air conditioning and we listened to a really interesting Ted Talk.

project 30 – sophie

11 Jul

I’ve been wanting the sweet, soulful and talented Sophie Jaffe of The Philosophie to do the project 30’s Q&A forEVER. Problem was I had to wait for her to turn 30! Which luckily happened a few months ago. I seriously don’t understand how she was able to accomplish so much before turning 30- impressive! I met Sophie a few years back through mutual friends and I am so grateful to now call her a friend. She’s a big bright light and her positive energy is infectious! Enjoy her answers…

Sophie, 30

What would your 30 something self tell your 20 something self if you could?

Get crazy and let go a bit more often. Have more sex. Create more experiences and trust yourself so that you can draw from them later: people rarely judge a person in their early 20’s for crazy behavior, so make it happen!

What do you wish you took more seriously in your 20’s?

Reading in my free time. Now that I have kiddos I just can’t muster up the brain power/ physically energy to read more than one page without passing out.

What do you wish you took less seriously in your 20’s?

My life has always been pretty serious. I was forced to grow up and take a mommy role of my brother at a young age. I had a wonderful childhood and made the most of it, but there wasn’t a lot a couldn’t take seriously because I didn’t have much of a choice.

Favorite memory from your 20’s?

Traveling all around the world/having adventures, Getting married + Giving birth to my two beautiful boys/the first most magic years with them.

In your early 20’s where did you think you would be (work, live etc) by 30?

I was still really discovering what I wanted and needed in my early 20’s so it was hard to project what may be possible by 30’s. A lot of shifts and awakenings occurred in my early 20’s. My childhood best friend died suddenly and unexpectedly and my mom developed breast cancer; both of which rocked my world. I know for sure I thought I would be on a more traditional path, educationally, and probably would’ve gotten my masters or MFT or be employed in a hospital as health psychologist. Really happy that didn’t happen 🙂

And where were you by 30? What did your life look like?

Married to the greatest man, 2 gorgeous kids + a prospering business I could’ve never dreamt up.

Were you ever worried that it wouldn’t all fall into place?

Never.

What is the greatest gift about being a woman in your 30’s?

Perspective.

When you look out onto the horizon. What do you hope your life looks like at 40?

Quiet moments with myself (reading finally… maybe?), building family memories with my hubby, parents + children and lots of vacations traveling the world, soaking it all in with my beautiful friends and their families.

What’s a quote/ saying you try to live your life by?

“Be Soft. Do not let the world make you hard. Do not let the pain make you hate. Do not let the bitterness steal your sweetness. Take pride that even though the rest of the world may disagree, you still believe it to be a beautiful place.” -Kurt Vonnegut

back from a dreamy weekend in Palm Springs

27 May

We’re back from a seriously fun weekend in Palm Springs celebrating our dear friend Rachel an PJ’s wedding. It was dreamy- every single detail was perfection. It’s such a joy to see people you love so happy. Today feels like my first official day back to reality, since last week was spent in a haze of jetlag, while gearing up for this wedding. So I’m spending the day getting my ducks in a row. I’m also spending the day drinking a ton of green juices (seriously, between our honeymoon and this past weekend all that we’ve done for five weeks is eat whatever and drink whatever we want…it has to stop), writing (so happy to get back to my writing- first Vietnam honeymoon post coming tomorrow morning!) and hopefully getting to a yoga class. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend! Here’s a few snapshots from the wedding…

Hellllllllo weekend. I’m SO very happy that you have arrived because you are going to be a good one. Tonight Brian and I are having a date night- we have three different restaurants in mind that we could possibly hit up. It’s between Mexican, Pho and Cuban. Tomorrow during the day I’m taking my little sister Ana on our second date….miniature golfing here we come! Tomorrow night we are having two of our favorite couples over for our monthly dinner club…we usually go out and try new restaurants but this time we are staying in because we have a new addition to the group…baby Margot!!! Hopefully Margot likes pizza and wine. And Sunday Brian and I are going to tackle booking hotels for our honeymoon and probably just be cuddly at home all day.

currently…

reading….The Goldfinch for a book club that I started recently. I have been falling behind on my reading and needed a little pick me up. I used to read every night when I got in bed but now I seem to fall asleep on the couch while we watch tv. Pathetic! There was a time not too long ago when I didn’t even own a tv! I got so much more done. I also love hanging with my fabulous girlfriends and will find any excuse to have them all in one room, so I thought…I should start a book club! Our first meeting March 22nd. Are any of you guys in book clubs? Do you have any tips on how to throw a fabulous one? Or any great questions to ask?

working on…writing various personal essays. I’ve written four in the past few weeks. I wrote one about the body image issues I developed after ten years working as a professional fit model, one about an interesting encounter I had with a neighbor, one about our trek through Nepal and lastly one about my seven-year battle with anxiety – which I’m happy to report I’ve been winning recently. Each essay has a life of its own and I’ve enjoyed the process of writing them. Oh and the feeling I get from putting them in a little folder entitled “finished  essays”…pure joy. Now, I plan on writing more and trying to get the others published.

watching...sadly, not much of substance lately. I’m patiently waiting for Walking Dead, House Of Cards & Grey’s Anatomy to return and in the meantime I have found myself watching episodes of The Real Housewives Of BH. I know, I know…truly embarrassing.

loving…nesting and working on home projects (I spent far too long mulling over different shades of grey for our walls. Don’t worry the perfect shade has been chosen. PHEW), planning and daydreaming about our upcoming honeymoon (I can’t wait to be away with Brian for a whole month. We so need it) Apples with almond butter (it’s becoming an everyday occurrence), my new Polaroid camera (FUN! although Frank doesn’t seem to find it too fun. He barks and hides when the picture pops out), the coral mirror that my darling husband painted for me (he’s a keeper), trying on my bridesmaid dress with Rachel for her upcoming wedding ( I LOVE it and her) & dinner dates with my beautiful pregnant girlfriend Taline ( I still can’t get it through my head that my best friend is going to become a mama. It blows my mind)

eating…paleo. I’m not strict about it everyday but I’ve been sticking to it Monday- Friday and I really feel a difference…more energy, flatter stomach, better digestion…blah…blah…blah. I’ve even gotten Brian into it. He says he likes it.
