our attempts at a family selfie

reading:

If the book has to do with birthing a child or raising it…I probably own it. The pile of books next to my bed keeps growing. So many points of view on everything! So many details! I might just give up on reading them all and wing it.

looking forward to:

A trip to Sedona (one of my favorite places) this Friday for Brian’s birthday. I’m a little bummed I won’t be able to do as much hiking as I normally do (my OB has put a stop to overly strenuous physical activity) when we go but I’m sure I will find other ways to decompress. Maybe I’ll drink lots of wine instead….kiddddding. Most likely I will just do a lot of reading and if the weather permits I may take this baby bump for a swim in the pool.

I’m also looking forward to a few days in San Francisco in early March. Brian has to go for work so I decided to tag along. He will most likely be working non-stop so I plan to wander the city alone (well, I guess I’m never really alone right now am I?). I actually enjoy this…I can be such a loner sometimes. Any recommendations on places I should visit or eat?

Showering this baby boy! My mom and step mom are throwing a shower for baby boy on April 3rd and my mother in law and aunt are throwing another one for him on April 17th. Something about a baby shower makes it all feel very real…and his arrival  soon.

thinking about:

birthing a small human. Brian and I toured the hospital a few weeks ago and let’s just say it made the fact that this babe has to make an exit at some point a harsh reality. I’ve been so focused on all the other stuff…baby names, baby room, baby shower, baby clothes….etc that I haven’t really thought about the birth in great detail. Well, the tour changed that. It was all going so well until I happened to notice the huge spotlights above the labor and delivery bed. There’s going to be a stage production happening at my vagina people! I started to break out in cold sweats when I saw those puppies. I keep reminding myself that people have babies every day. I am not special. I too will survive this. I think.

enjoying:

The downtime I have been able to enjoy before the baby arrives. I haven’t not worked since I was seventeen! Although baby boy and I have done some fit modeling work for maternity lines. Clearly, I believe in child labor at a very early age. But mostly my days are filled with walks, lunches with friends, reading, nesting at home & writing in coffee shops. It’s amazing how fast the day goes when you don’t do anything.

loving:

my husband, decaf iced lattes from le pain quotidien, pinteresting ideas for the nursery, feeling my son move in my belly, mangos & my girlfriends.

watching:

togetherness, girls, walking dead, life in pieces, grey’s anatomy, how to get away with murder…oh and house hunters international (it speaks to my soul!)

looking forward to…

Carving a scary pumpkin with Brian, dressing Frank in his taco costume and parading him around town on Halloween, eating copious amounts of candy on Halloween, celebrating our wedding anniversary on November 9th (we’re turning two!), celebrating thanksgiving with our families (we are joining them all together for the first time), the holidays in general, getting a christmas tree (every year we name our tree Bert and this year it will be Bert IV), a quiet December with more time for creative projects, finishing some projects around the house, my upcoming trip to Kansas City to visit my step father Irv and to Atlanta to visit my girlfriend Chantal and her sweet family.

reading…

Oy. I got so many books going right now. My goal to read all these (& these) books by the end of the year has turned me into a reading machine (it has also set me up for failure. I still have so many to read!). I plan on putting together a book review post at some point. “At some point”- famous last words. Anyway, I read and LOVED “Everything I Never Told You”- I devoured it in three days. Then I moved onto “Luckiest Girl Alive” for one of my book clubs- still haven’t finished it. Can’t seem to get into it. What am I missing here? I think I still plan on finishing it. Maybe? It’s sits next to my bed waiting for me to pick it back up. In the meantime I’ve moved onto “Big Magic” and so far I am loving it. It’s all about living an inspired and creative life and I’m down for that.

watching…

So much tv- it’s embarrassing. I wish there weren’t so many shows that we liked. On Sundays we watch “Homeland” & “The Walking Dead”…on Monday we (or maybe I should say I)  watch the new sitcom “Life In Pieces” (have you seen it? I’m not one to laugh out loud when watching television but this show gets me every single time. The first episode literally had me crying)…on Tuesdays I got nothing (I usually catch up on my reading that night)…on Wednesdays we watch “American Horror Story”…on Thursdays we (ok, I force Brian to watch with me. It’s what marriage is all about, right?) watch “Grey’s Anatomy” (yes, some people still do. I can’t give up now, I’ve been watching it for twelve years at this point), “Scandal” & “How To Get Away With Murder”. Oh and then you have netflix…I am obsessed with “The Affair’ right now. We are six episodes into the first season and love it. Oh and lastly, we watched “Amy Schumer: live at the Apollo” on HBO last night. HAAAA. I love that women. So many inappropriate jokes but so funny.

you know what I’m not watching…

“The Leftovers”- I keep trying to watch it but I don’t think I’m smart enough. But really…is anyone smart enough? What is this show even about?? It frustrates me to no end.

practicing…

mindfulness in all things I do…from making the bed…to taking Frank on his morning walks…to spending time with the people I love.

loving…

My girlfriends. This is a constant feeling for me, but lately I’ve just been so in awe of the females in my life. Each relationship adds so much joy to my life and I can feel their support at all times. The tiny hints of fall in the air in Los Angeles, movie dates with my mom and brother (it takes me back to childhood. we have some good laughs), evening walks with Frank and Brian, flannel shirts,  avocados, pictures of my fiends babies (so many cute kids!), going to bed at ten (ok, 9:30) every night (I like my sleep) and my husband…I’m always loving my husband.

watching…

the americans (it’s SO good this season. I have a total crush on Keri Russell), girls (yet another show that is so good this season), togetherness (probably my new favorite show on tv), house of cards, better call saul (I’m still on the fence about this one…I really want to like it), walking dead, grey’s anatomy (I just can’t quit you), how to get away with murder (loved the season finale) & scandal. Patiently awaiting for bate’s motel to return on monday night. I can see after writing this list I am watching far too much television. I just can’t help myself…there are some seriously good shows on television right now.

listening to…

Serial podcast– I know…I know… I am so late to the game on this one but I finally decided to give it a shot and got totally sucked in. I listened to all the episodes in a few short days and I am now obsessed with the case. Is he innocent?? Is he not?? Ugh. I can’t stop thinking about it.

reading…

“Taking The Leap” by Pema Chodron (or re-reading it I should say. I love that Pema Chodron)

loving…

coming home to “just because” flowers from Brian, my new morning & evening routine (more on that next week), my therapist, haagen dazs low-fat vanilla frozen yogurt (it’s becoming a bit of a problem…I must stop stocking it in the freezer), afternoon dates with my best girlfriend Taline and her delectable baby boy Liam, clementine daily, sleeping soundly, the smell of jasmine on my morning walks (everything is in bloom!), watermelon colored nails and toes, pinteresting, these photographs, coconut scented candles, this quote…”A secret to happiness is letting every situation be what it is, instead of what you think it should be.”

grateful for…

my health, my husband, my pup, my friends & my family. In no particular of course.

currently….

thinking about: how excited I am about the possibilities that 2015 already holds, our new business (can’t wait to share more!), babies (I am 32 after all:), how to be the best version of myself everyday, blogging, a new book proposal, travel plans for the year (we have four weddings on the horizon in 2015…one is in England!) expansion, speaking from my truth & being present.

grateful for: there will never be a week that goes by that I am not grateful for my husband (he just makes everything sweeter), hot baths, dates with my momma, feeling connected & sushi.

watching: Girls! I am surprised by how much I adored the first two episodes of season four (I liked the first season but hated the second season so much that I gave up on the show for a bit) but I decided to give it another shot this season and I laughed out loud while watching it- LOVE. I am also on a crusade to watch all the oscar nominated films this year before the big show…I crossed one more off my list this week, Selma- it was such a beautiful film. Watching it made me feel aware (and possibly bad) that I didn’t march in the ferguson or Michael Brown protests. I think we (or maybe just me) forget what a difference we can make in combatting injustice with our voices.

family

our attempt at a family selfie this weekend

thinking about: ending 2014 on a positive note (it’s been a bit of a trying year!) and planning for an epic 2015. I’m in need of a fresh start and nothing says “fresh start” like a new year. We will be in Sedona to ring in the new year and I can’t think of a better place to set new intentions for the year ahead- that place is magic.

grateful for: a peaceful state of mind, my husband, pandora, english breakfast tea with vanilla cream, long walks every morning with Frankie and my ipod, a bright and cheerful office space to create in, candles, rainy weather, my little brother & clients.

watching: I’ve been going to the movies weekly this fall- so much good stuff to see! So far I’ve seen…The Skeleton twins, This Is Where I Leave You, The Good Lie, Gone Girl, Nightcrawler, Intersteller, The Theory Of Everything, Horrible Bosses 2 & Wild. Currently working on a movie review post. Oh and this past weekend Bri and watched a bunch of stuff on netflix- my favorite being the documentary “Burt’s Buzz” about the man behind the company Burt’s Bees- the guy fascinates me.

loving: the holiday season. There is nothing better than cuddling up on the couch with my little family of three next to our Christmas tree.

working on: my “end of year to do list”. It comprises of twenty things- ranging from finishing a few writing projects, to finally selling the marble slab that we removed from our kitchen island months ago (one in which has been occupying most of our guest bathroom ever since).

Reading: I read two books on our honeymoon…”Americanah” and “The Fault In Our Stars“. I really enjoyed “Americanah”- it was an interesting discussion about race and immigration. I highly recommend it if you haven’t read it yet. I loved “The Fault In Our Stars”- I obsessively read it the last few days of the trip. I actually finished it on our flight home and sobbed in front of many, many, many other passengers.. What can I say? I’m emotional. It’s a moving, funny and thoughtful story narrated by a sixteen-year-old cancer patient named Hazel. Sounds terribly bleak, doesn’t it? But really it’s not. Upon our return I found out it’s been turned into a movie that comes out June 6th. Winning.

Thinking about: Rachel & PJ’s wedding in Palm Springs this weekend!!!! As many of you know Rachel and PJ are some of our closet friends so their wedding is a big deal in our lives. It’s kind of like getting married again without the stress! So we are off to the desert tomorrow for a 3-day celebration. I’m starting to feel like I am a professional traveler.

grateful for: The opportunity to take a month off to travel with Brian. Traveling feeds my soul and I am grateful that it feeds my husband’s soul too.

Loving (in no particular order): the warm weather, the feeling of summer in the air, my Bali tan, my hot pink nails for Rachel’s wedding, my husband, my mama, the treasures we brought home from our trip, morning walks with Frank, the fact that one of my best gals is getting married this weekend and two others are welcoming baby boys soon, taking long baths with pretty smelling salts and magazines

Reading: Did you know that I am reading “The Goldfinch”??? Kidddding. I think I’ve mentioned it 100 times in the last two weeks. But seriously it’s that GOOD. I find myself thinking about the characters all day long…in the shower, in the car, at work, in bar method class…they are consuming my mind!

Thinking about: upcoming travel! Up first- my best girlfriend Rachel’s bachelorette in Napa at the end of March. I am beyond excited for the weekend. There is nothing better than celebrating people you love and adore during happy times in their life as well as girls trips in general. I am a fan of a girls weekend. Then on April 24th Bri and I are off on our one month honeymoon to Vietnam and Bali. Seriously, is this real life?? I’ve only dreamed of going to these places and now it’s becoming a reality. I am so grateful I found a man who loves travel as much as I do. We still have so much planning to do. We still haven’t booked a single hotel! We are staying in all weekend and buckling down on booking stuff.

Listening to: I’m on a “LCD Soundsystem” Pandora kick. I seem to love every song that it picks. They all make me want to DANCE. Also, listening to Frank play with his new squeaky ball. I have my mom to thank for this purchase. It’s seriously the most annoying sound in the world and he LOVES it. When I hide it from he becomes depressed and frantically searches every inch of the house for it. It’s sad to watch. It’s sitting in a drawer right now…I don’t have the heart to trash it.

Watching: House Of Cards, True Detective & The Americans…and when I start to feel too high brow I throw on Real Housewives of BH. Oh and of course I’ll be watching the Oscars this Sunday. I seriously look forward to it every year.

Loving: Our new kitchen island! We finally have a hug space to eat on…well we don’t have new counter stools yet but we are almost there. I can’t believe how much it has changed the space. The marble we had prior made the space feel cold but with our new wood top suddenly our super modern loft feels warm. I’m in love. I’m also in love with the rain we are getting in LA right now. My heaven.
