well, hello 32!

14 Jul

I turned 32 last week- I am officially a woman in my 30’s! The celebration was pretty mellow this year…I went to a sweaty morning yoga class, spent the afternoon at the beach with my momma, got a mani/pedi and then Brian and I went out for sushi. It was a day filled with all my favorite things. As I am sure it goes with many people, my birthday always causes me reflect on the past year. The last year has been a wild ride. The highs include marrying Brian (I still pinch myself!), building a home, getting off the antidepressants I was taking for my anxiety (more on that in a later post), taking a month off to travel through Vietnam and Bali on our honeymoon, as well as a few epic weekend trips to Sedona and our mini moon in San Francisco and Tomales Bay, Frank (in general) and lastly watching so many of my dear friends get married, get pregnant and have babies.

The lows have included work stress (which invariably caused money stress), disappointing friendships, the separation of a couple that shocked me and the whole gallbladder saga. I feel like that silly surgery stole a few weeks from me, not to mention my digestion has been screwy ever since.

All in all 31 was pretty damn good to me. I have so much to be grateful for. When I look at my life I can’t believe how many things have fallen into place exactly the way I wanted. Is everything perfect? No. But is it ever? The last year has taught me that I am always going to be ok. No matter what. I am much more resilient then I give myself credit for.

I am still working on my goal list for this next year but until then here are a few of my favorite moments from 31.

Brian’s birthday weekend was absolutely perfect- Friday night we went out for a quiet sushi dinner just the two of us..then we cuddled up on the couch and watched a movie.

Saturday night we had dinner with friends to celebrate followed by drinks with even more friends. I think it’s safe to say that Brian felt the love! We also ate the most delicious chocolate cake from Sweet Lady Jane for dessert. I die for the cakes from Sweet Lady Jane! If you have never tried one…you must.

Sunday we lounged around for a bit drinking coffee and then decided to eat leftover chocolate cake for breakfast! Considering Sunday was was Brian’s actual birthday we thought that it was ok to eat cake for breakfast. Why not right? Then we headed to the beach and cuddled up on a blanket for a few hours in the sun…talking, laughing and napping.

The last birthday celebration was with his family Sunday night. We went to The Hungry Cat for dinner and had a raw seafood feast- I have NEVER seen a tray like the one I saw last night! It was so tall that I couldn’t see Brian’s father through most of the meal.

When we got home Brian said that this was one of his favorite birthday’s ever!! Success! He also said that he’s excited to see what the next decade will bring…I couldn’t agree more.

INSPIRATION, GRATITUDE & SURPRISES

Week 2’s “Inspiration, Gratitude & Surprises”  from a very tired, sweaty and Chardonnay sipping girl sitting at the Fernwood Grill, Big Sur.

-What inspired me this week?-

A session with my life coach Maggi (www.maggischarf.com).

Conversations with Rachel (www.onepartgypsy.com) about future dinner parties, dogs, Thailand and life.

The music filled scenic drive up the 1 highway to Big Sur.

-What am I grateful for this week?-

My first camping experience with my best friend and lover (and guy to my right sipping beer)

The fact that my sister Brooke (really second cousins) is moving back to LA.

My sweet friend Ari.

-What surprised me this week?-

The fact that Brian and I completed a 8 mile hike today…I even carried a heavy (I think) backpack!!

How in love I was with old town Cayucos.

How handy Brian is in the wilderness…he even put fire gloves on at one point to handle our campfire.

How cold Big Sur is in the summer (could be because I am sleeping in a tent)

How quickly a majestic redwood forest can turn into a bug ridden den.

The fact I am getting wireless service when I can’t even get cell service.
