family

our attempt at a family selfie this weekend

thinking about: ending 2014 on a positive note (it’s been a bit of a trying year!) and planning for an epic 2015. I’m in need of a fresh start and nothing says “fresh start” like a new year. We will be in Sedona to ring in the new year and I can’t think of a better place to set new intentions for the year ahead- that place is magic.

grateful for: a peaceful state of mind, my husband, pandora, english breakfast tea with vanilla cream, long walks every morning with Frankie and my ipod, a bright and cheerful office space to create in, candles, rainy weather, my little brother & clients.

watching: I’ve been going to the movies weekly this fall- so much good stuff to see! So far I’ve seen…The Skeleton twins, This Is Where I Leave You, The Good Lie, Gone Girl, Nightcrawler, Intersteller, The Theory Of Everything, Horrible Bosses 2 & Wild. Currently working on a movie review post. Oh and this past weekend Bri and watched a bunch of stuff on netflix- my favorite being the documentary “Burt’s Buzz” about the man behind the company Burt’s Bees- the guy fascinates me.

loving: the holiday season. There is nothing better than cuddling up on the couch with my little family of three next to our Christmas tree.

working on: my “end of year to do list”. It comprises of twenty things- ranging from finishing a few writing projects, to finally selling the marble slab that we removed from our kitchen island months ago (one in which has been occupying most of our guest bathroom ever since).

I was sitting at my desk the other day when I got a funny feeling that I was being watched. I turned and looked down to see this. Such a little creeper. He proceeded to stay like that for a few minutes too. He’s so weird.

Side note – I have not been doing a very good job about keeping up with this weekly series. Sometimes I feel like people are sick of all my Frank photos. My brother even shamed me recently by telling me that I look like a crazy person on Facebook due to the amount of photos I post of Frank. What can I say? I’m a proud mom and it’s hard not to considering he’s so damn photogenic.

Anyway…I’m back…or should I say…we’re back.

Frank: some may find this weeks portrait of Frank a tad strange but have you ever seen a cuter tush?? I love his little bunny tail, swirly hairs and I love how he tucks his little legs under like this.

“a portrait of my child, once a week, every week″

Frank: After a wild night of playing with our neighbor’s new puppy Harley……Frank was so damn tired that  he opted not to get out of bed the next morning and play our normal game of “ball…ball…ball”. Instead he lazily watched me get ready for work from the comfort of my bed.

I am sure avid blog readers know about the series called “project 52” but for those of you who don’t it’s a series where various bloggers photograph their child/children every week for a year. I happen to love this series…I find it so sweet. My two favorites….Bleubird & Small Time Cook. Sooo, considering I happen to think Frank is my firstborn…I thought, why not…you know?

Clearly, he also happens to be insanely photogenic…so…your’e welcome.

Big news! Frank graduated from puppy school last weekend. He looks rather pleased with himself in the above photo, eh? Sadly, homeboy didn’t have much to be smiling about. I know, so mean of me to say, huh? But I only speak the truth. It’s not like I really care if he can roll over or do tricks anyways but it would be helpful if he could, you know, “stay” on command. I blame his poor showing on his sheer stubbornness and our lack of time in following through with him each week (yes I am aware that only a crazy person would get a puppy while planning a wedding). The highlight of the final exam day was the fact each owner had to go up in front of the whole class and perform the routine with their dogs. If I would have been privy to this information prior to class, Frank and I would have conveniently “been under the weather” that day.

When I was told this information upon arrival I silently cursed Brian for being at a fantasy football draft and leaving me to tackle such a task alone. As I watched a few dogs effortlessly perform the routine of sit, watch, touch, stand, stay and come I began to sweat…the other dogs had it down. It was then I heard Frank’s name called. I glanced down at Frank…our eyes met with concern…it was game time. We tentatively walked up on stage and went through the routine with all eyes on us a bit stunned. IT WAS A SHIT SHOW.  At one point Frank just layed down and stared at me when I said “come”. Asshole.

So pretty much I paid 125.00 to have a dog that will simply sit for me but only if I am offering him a seriously delicious treat- lox being his top fav. At least he’s cute, right?

lately….

12 Aug

I feel like the days have been spinning by and I never have one thought long enough to turn it into a post. Call me crazy but I prefer when posts have a point and focus, you know? Considering my head has had neither a point or a focus lately I’m not quite sure what I expect…clearly, a miracle.

So instead of write a post with a point I’ve decided to write this.

Lately…

Frank got sick. It started with some funny coughing and hacking noises. Then he started sneezing and then there were green boogers. As stupid as this may sound…I really didn’t know that dogs got colds. I know they get worms, stomach bugs and a million other things…but colds? I guess I never thought about it. It’s just so silly when he sneezes and needs to blow his nose. So human like. Well once I noticed that he was indeed sick I quickly and dramatically rushed him to the vets office on Friday. I’m sure making it very apparent to all the nurses and doctors at Bay Cities that I’m a first time mom.  When the doctor came in she did a thorough exam of Frank. Coming to the conclusion that he had a respiratory infection as well as a yeast infection in his ears. Please take a moment to add “yeast infection in the ears” to the list of things I didn’t know dogs got either. One hour and four hundred dollars later we wear headed home with antibiotics and ear wash. Yay.

Saturday morning we spent hours going over sample wedding ceremonies that our wedding planner sent us in the hopes of finding ideas we wanted to pull for our own. It was an interesting few hours…we covered every emotion imaginable.  It went something like this….we ate cheeries….fought over whether or not we would write  our own vows….laughed so hard over the idea of lighting unity candles and pouring sand into a jar together….agreed on a few readings that we both want in our ceremony…Brian complained that he thought he was coming down with the flu….I randomly cried because I got all mushy over the thought of standing up there getting married. We ate some more cherries. We probably made it through about a 1/4 of it before throwing in towel for lunch.

Saturday afternoon our wedding planner came over for a 3/12 hour marathon meeting. We covered everything from the order in which our bridal party will walk down the aisle to when we will allow speeches. It was an eye-opening experience. So many details. Details. Details. Details. After she left Brian quickly curled into a ball on the couch to nap. We had big plans to hit the town that night for a birthday party but Brian really did come down with a stomach bug so instead we stayed in and watched “House Of Cards”.

It’s been pretttttty exciting around here.

Frank and his first love

18 Jul

Brian’s mother, Zina, stopped by last weekend to meet her first grandson Frank, equipped with new toys. I swear between her and my mother, Frank is already a very spoiled boy. Interestingly enough, Frank isn’t really into toys. He’d much rather chew on the couch, my shoes, Brian’s shower scrub gloves, the wall, leaves and paper towels than his slew of toys. So when Zina arrived with the bag of toys I thought…good luck. She pulled out a monkey…nothing…a pig…he gave it one lick…a ball…he gave it a nudge…then she pulled out a teething ring that smelled of chicken and his eyes lit up. Truly they did. It was love at first sight. He immediately grabbed the little ring and started nawing at it. I saw a light at the end of the tunnel, maybe I wouldn’t have to be his constant play companion now that he had this!

Sadly, that is not what developed over the last ten days. He won’t actually chew it, instead he hides it around our home because he loves it so much. He always makes his move when he thinks nobody is watching and usually moves it every hour or so like it’s stolen goods and the police are on his ass. It’s love.

We’ve officially been parents for one week and it has been an exhausting but insanely fun few days. Leading up to getting Frank I was worried that maybe he wouldn’t live up to all the hype I had created in my mind about him. I mean, how could he, right? I’ve been obsessed with an imaginary French Bulldog named Frank for the last three years. Thankfully he is even more fabulous than I imagined. He’s constantly making me laugh, well, except when he shits next to my bed. I mean, what an asshole, right? Despite that, I’m still madly in love with him. I actually miss him when he sleeps. True story. He has a million nicknames already…Frankie, Frankster, Frankles, Smoosh, The Franknater, nugget. I mostly call him smoosh though. It suits him.
