I know it is not technically fall until September 23rd but the fact that we are officially in September brings me such joy- I say this every year don’t I? What can I say I much prefer fall and winter than summer and spring (alright, spring isn’t so bad) I simply don’t have the same love affair with summer that everyone else seems to. My husband included, he’s appalled that I find summer the lesser of the seasons. It’s not like I don’t appreciate long summer days at the beach and cut off shorts but I much prefer cozy nights, cool temperatures, sweaters, fireplaces, hearty soups, crisp air, grey clouds and rain. I just feel more alive in the fall and winter. I also tend to have more energy in the fall and winter- I feel more creative. Oh the holidays! I’m a sucker for the holidays….halloween, November 9th (a new holiday around these parts as it will be our 1st wedding anniversary!), thanksgiving, christmas & new years. Love…love…love.
I’m looking at this upcoming change in seasons as a fresh start- a rebirth of sorts. It’s only September 2nd and I already feel lighter….there’s a new-found pep in my step.
This fall I will be…
cooking: the perfect roast chicken, butternut squash soup and spicy chili
baking: apple pie and pumpkin bread
eating: hearty pasta dishes
drinking: pumpkin spiced lattes, pinot noirs, mulled wine & chai teas
playing: card games with Brian while cuddled up on the couch
watching: “Walking Dead”, “Scandal”, “The Americans”, Grey’s Anatomy”, “American Horror Story” & “Modern Family” / new fall movies “This Is Where I Leave You” (loved the book!), “Gone Girl” (loved the book!) “The Judge”, “St Vincent” & “Horrible Bosses 2”,
wearing: scarves, boots, sweaters, skinny jeans & leather jackets
making: a new vision board
writing: travel essays, a book proposal & gratitude letters to my loved ones
daydreaming about: our road trip from LA to Seattle
celebrating: our first wedding anniversary
loving: my husband
carving: pumpkins
doing: yoga
lighting: candles and fireplaces
going: to a cozy cabin in the woods (I’d settle for this in the winter too)
painting: my toes and the town red
reading: I need your help! I’d love a few new books to read this fall while cuddled up in bed…recommendations please!

I’m a child of autumn. So, while the other seasons are full of fun, and enjoyable, Fall is what rules.
I knew there was a reason I liked you! 🙂 YAY FALL!
(a new holiday around these parts as it will be our 1st wedding anniversary!) – too cute! happy new holiday to you and B!
I’m with you on feeling more alive in teh fall and winter! So much beauty all around (not that there isn’t in spring and summer but the fall and winter just carry an extra charm!) I can’t wait to bake apple pie and pumpkin bread, cook spicy chili and break out my scarves, boots and sweaters! Oh fall – I love you!
Summer is hanging in here – 95 here yesterday 🙂 I am excited about Fall though. Happy Hump Day!
Yay for fall! It is coming early to us this year and I don’t mind. I love the changing seasons and all the deliciousness that fall and winter bring!
Books that have stuck with me this past year: The Book Thief (which was recently a movie), And the Mountains Echoed by Kahled Hosseini (The Kite Runner author), and Broken Harbor by Tana French (an Irish author who writes about different detectives working cases in Dublin’s fictional murder squad, her first book Into the Woods was pretty good too). Also just recently read the thriller Norwegian by Night and I really enjoyed that too!
