This weekend made my belly and my soul happy.
I didn’t have work on Friday so my mama and I went on a morning hike together to take advantage of this gorgeous summer weather we’ve been having. We headed to my favorite hiking trail, Paseo Miramar- it’s a pretty brutal incline (it’s actually where Brian and I trained before our trek in Nepal) and it kicks your ass but you get a breathtaking view of the ocean the whole way up…so it kind of makes up for the pain. After our hike we met Papa Irv (my step-father) for lunch at Back On The Beach. The restaurant is literally on the sand- it was a heaven. Friday night I met my best girlfriend Taline (who’s five months pregnant and looking radiant) for dumplings at Roc on Sawtelle. Sweet baby jesus are the dumplings good and SO CHEAP. I’ve been craving them ever since.
Saturday morning I met Rachel for 9am yoga at a new studio in our hood called Yoga Salt. Rachel + yoga = the perfect way to kick off a Saturday. After showering up my sweet husband took me on a lunch date at Paiche, a Peruvian Izakaya restaurant down the street from us. As I’m typing this I’m realizing that I did a lot of eating this weekend. After lunch we headed home with the plan to read our books all afternoon but ended up falling asleep with frankie for THREE HOURS. This is shocking to me because I am not a napper but man did it feel good. When we awoke it was time to meet our neighbor Eric for happy hour drinks at The Corner Door. I have a total crush on him. Don’t worry he’s gay and Brian knows all about my crush so it’s allowed.
Sunday Bri and I slept in, then lazily strolled around our neighborhood with Frank to get coffees and muffins. Sunday afternoon I had my third date with my little sister Ana. Since it was such a beautiful day I decided to take her to the Venice beach boardwalk for lunch and a stroll. A decision I second guessed a few times when I saw her eyes widen at some of the people and their outfits. Clearly, I’m not a mother yet. But she loved it and I had the best time with her. The more time we spend together the more she opens up and I’m finding her hilarious. I’m a sucker for a sense of humor and she’s got a good one. After a few hours of fun in the sun I dropped her back off at home. When I returned home my sweet husband had prepared dinner for us. We dined on bunless hamburgers, sweet potato fries and corn on the cob…then we watched “Enough Said” while cuddled on the couch.
My favorite weekends are the ones that involve amazing meal after amazing meal! We’ve been on a sweet potato fries kick lately. I can’t get over the fact that you’re wearing a sundress in the photo- it’s snowing here. Perfect for napping and reading but I’m ready for bare feet in the grass!
Someday when I visit, you’ll have to plan a food tour of your ‘hood… 🙂
Heavenly!
And take an extra nap for me! Lord knows I’m not getting that sleep. 🙂
Hey! That’s where I live too!
You know how to live, Kate! I will visit Venice and Santa Monica on Saturday, so I have some ideas from this post, as to hikes and eats!
That’s a lucky little sister, right there. You two make an adorable pair. xo
