obsessed

5 Feb

I’m obsessed with all things home decor right now. OBSESSED. I think it comes with the territory of moving into a new space, right? Problem is I have a long list of other things I need to do, like work. But instead I find myself spending a good portion of my day calling my mother with new decorating ideas….I think a mirror should go here and a table there and maybe we need a rug in the office and we need a painting there and should we paint the walls? When Brian gets home from work I spend at least a half an hour (after I give him a hug and kiss of course) showing him things we clearly NEED at West Elm. He seems less enthused than I. For a man who doesn’t see how important a Bazzar Pouf can be to one’s life – he certainly has some strong opinions about decorating. I’m dying to meet those husbands who don’t care what the new couch looks like because that’s not who I am marrying. I show him pictures and he’s like “naaaah, I don’t like that shade of grey”. I mean reeeeaaaallly. Doesn’t he know I’m only asking to be fair? Kidding…kinda. Thankfully I’ve made him realize how important it is that we have THIS rug in our office.

Alright, I’m off to tackle Tuesday and finding the “perfect shade of grey” couch. I’ll leave you with a few home decor inspiration photos that make me swoon.

I think the person in the partnership who is not really “into it” (interior design) should defer to the one who is. Coming from a place of not being interested—unless asked—is not the place from which a true contribution will come. There may be a few things the person simply can’t abide. Identify these and no one need go there.

LOVE these photos! i loved searching for decor photos when we first moved into our house in june and though it’s definitely a process (we were living in a furnished one bedroom and moved into an EMPTY 3 bedroom house!) it’s so amazing to build your new nest together.

this was my post of things i loved:

Kate, just saw this post. We’re in the middle of remodeling our home in Brentwood (along with planning a wedding and working) and I totally get how obsessive it can be. In regards to those husbands that have no opinion? I don’t have one either. He loves my ideas, but somehow when it comes to the individual pieces I show him with such enthusiasm, he responds with either a reluctant, mildly sarcastic “okay” or a disapproving “mm” followed by awkward silence. Really crushes my ego. I will say the best way around that is to avoid showing each individual item, but perhaps show him the entire concept. I rely a lot on the application Houzz to show my man why I need a mirrored dresser, ghost lamps, or why I love that Restoration Blue/Green paint color.

It’s amazing and Pinterest has nothing on it. And if he gets overly opinionated after showing him a picture? Just pretend like you acknowledge their opinion and then do it anyway. Half the time he loves it when he sees the finished product 😉

    Good luck!
