After promising myself on January 1st (so cliché, huh?) that I would make this year about health I decided to do a month-long cleanse to kick it off. So far i’ve survived eight days with no sugar, gluten, dairy or alcohol. I thought I would be miserable but I actually feel pretty good! There’s only been one bad moment when I wanted something sweet and got very sad and very mad that I had agreed to do something sooooo ridiculous for a whole month. This was fixed by getting out of the house and going to a yoga class with Rachel. Breathing through those sticky moments seems to help.
Feeling excited by the fact that I feel so damn good I decided to take this whole health kick up a notch and order a three-day juice cleanse by Pressed Juicery– it arrives Saturday morning at 7am. Anyone can survive anything for three days, right? It’s just three days! Ok, I’m actually a little scared. The thing that frightens me the most is the no coffee thing. Ummmm, I don’t think I’ve ever gone without coffee. I’m hoping that all the packing we have to do this weekend will be a good distraction from the hunger and caffeine withdrawals. Brian said he was thinking about staying at a hotel for those three days to avoid me. He was totally kidding…I think.
Have any of you ever done a juice cleanse??? Any tips for this newbie???

Kudos to you! This is definitely an undertaking but I don’t doubt you’re going to feel great soon enough. The three day juice cleanse shouldn’t be too bad. When I was just juicing I was surprised to find (1) how not hungry I was, (2) how much lighter and clearer I felt, and (3) how much I missed the act of chewing. You’ll probably get a headache from missing the caffeine but that should only persist for the 1st and 2nd day. As far as the rest of the cleanse, I found the second week to the most challenging when apparently all of the toxins come to the surface. Keep on trucking if you have the same experience though because the third and fourth weeks are FANTASTIC :). So worth it.
I’ve always been wary of juice cleanses–I associate them with Gwyneth Paltrow who always seems to have weird ideas about health and who always seems to be talking about cleanses/her GOOP website… I just feel like not being able to eat anything for three days can’t be good for you (yes I know humans can survive about a month-6 weeks without eating anything solid). And yes I realize Muslims who practice Ramadan go all day without eating or drinking anything (as long as the sun is in the sky). But I personally couldn’t do it! But good luck to you! You’ll have to let us know how it goes.
I’m interested to hear how it goes!! Good luck- I’m so impressed!
I’ll live through you on this one…..
Good Luck!!!
You can do 3 days…I have faith in you! I agree with Danielle about the headaches from caffeine withdrawal…it’s one of the roughest parts. I have to disagree with her about not being hungry though…I was hungry most of the time, except for maybe about an hour after actually drinking the juice. But, she’s right about the feeling “lighter and clearer”…in the end, it’s worth it. Hopefully, you will respond more like Danielle and not be hungry all the time too 🙂
