I plead insanity

29 Oct

Apologies for not blogging much the last week, I have been all over the place since getting engaged. I’ve literally lost my mind. Considering I am not much of a girlie girl I have surprised even myself (and everyone around me) with my sudden and obsessive appreciation of all things wedding. It’s only been a week and I’ve created a pinterest board, made my mom talk about the bridesmaids dresses at nauseum, forced Brian talk about wedding venues and I even bought two bridal magazines. GASP. Who is this wedding monster that I have become?? She’s my worst nightmare! Also, for a girl who doesn’t normally care much for jewelry, I’ve learned I LOVE diamonds.

The big question right now is where to get married. The endless options both excite me and overwhelm me. I would love to hear any words of advice, tips or stories from your wedding planning and/or weddings! Please share below!

We picked our wedding site by the history/meaning we had with the place – so that may be an option for you to consider. Do not worry it happened to me too and after a while you will hit a calm stride with the whole Wedding thing! Good Luck & Happy Monday:)

All I can say is get a checklist and just start researching. I did the same thing after getting engaged recently and it was like a huge hurricane came and went. You’ll find your groove and it will get much easier. Pinterest helps 🙂

I sooooo look forward to the groove phase because this phase is a bit crazy:) Pinterest most definitely helps. So much inspiration! Congrats on your engagement!

    Hi Kate,
I’m reading your blog for a couple of weeks but today I feel I have to comment it also !!!
We chose our wedding place first by its location, it was only 20 minutes by car from the church where we wanted to be married (it’s my hometown church) and it was quite close to my mum’s house (she did all the decorations and so had a lot of things to carry from her house to the venue place). “Cherry on the cake”, when we visited it, we just fall in love with it because it was very very charming. The place had somme issues (it was too small to welcome all of us inside so we ate under a tent in the garden and so have to move for the ball and some of my guests forgave the gifts we had made for them) but we were under it spell and in the end we don’t regret our choice at all.
Good luck for the next months/years (?), I didn’t like it that much becoming that Bridezilla I don’t even know I could be but my husband-to-be endure it without any complaint, he read somewhere something that really help him stay calm : soon as engaged, “the woman you love” will become “the woman you are going to marry” but “no not despair”, the “woman you love” will be back as soon as shes married to you. And it actually happened !!!!
All my wishes of happiness for you two !

Kate, I laughed at your quote about becoming obsessed with all things wedding. I don’t consider myself wedding obsessed but as a photographer weddings have so many beautiful details, how can you not become “obsessed”. I was going to write you (a most likely ridiculously long ) post but I figure I will email you directly instead at your yahoo address. But the best advice I can give you is to make your wedding undeniably you. Do not do what “should be” done but let it reflect what make you and “Bri-guy” who you are and that way it will be absolutely perfect. You like dream boards so I would do one of those to plan your wedding. Yep that’s right, a dream board just for your wedding! And why not, it is a pretty important day;)!

That is so exciting! I loooove wedding planning. There’s this website I used [I don’t know if you’ve got it yet] for decoration ideas, it’s theknot.com. They have venues, photographers, caterers and anything you need to plan the wedding. They also have this HUGE check list of things you need to get done month by month. I worked for me and I was able to save a few $$ with DIY ideas and on wedding planners. Hope this helps 🙂

I was the same way –pre-engagement I couldn’t remember to wear jewelery, post-engagement I couldn’t pass a diamond store without swooning.

One little thing that seemed to help in wedding planning was to always try to remember to refer to the wedding as “our wedding” and avoid saying “my wedding”. Remembering that it was our special day seemed to help keep things in perspective (and me in check!). Congrats!

It’s crazy how that happens! (and congratulations!)

I got married young, without intending to at all, and so I was the first of all my friends and my generation of both sides of extended family. I learned a lot and would do things a lot differently had I been known better (okay, I probably would choose to elope now, but don’t regret the big wedding…) Here’s a few tips:

    1) don’t worry about other people’s expectations; do what you (and your guy) want.

    2) the people involved will make or break it. if you get a flaky vibe from someone, keep looking and be firm. Our photographer was a colleague/friend of my MIL and he ended up being a complete disaster. Everything was so beautiful on that day, but I don’t feel like my photographs capture it at all. I was too nice to insist on someone else and I wish i had. I loved the venue we chose for the reception. It was a beautiful historic hotel just blocks from the church. I fell in love and had to have it, even though the event coordinator at the hotel seemed a bit flaky. I didn’t realize how many things can go wrong if you’re coordinator isn’t on the ball (like, forgetting to put the reservation in the system for the bride and groom’s room the night of the reception–if it hadn’t have been for a last minute cancellation, we would have been bunking in with my brother and sister on our wedding night for lack of another option). So many small (and big!) things went wrong because our date was around the holidays and I think the event coordinator just dropped the ball because she was bogged down in her own personal life.

Gosh, I wish they’d had Pinterest when I was planning my wedding. It would have been SO helpful!

    Good luck and best wishes!
